Sujoy Ghosh, a movie maker of a different genre

Sujoy Ghosh a much sought after name among the youths and known for his off beat films like Jhankar Beats and Home Delivery is these days working on a childrens movie.

Ghosh who ventured into the Cinema world after quitting a lookrative corporate job says he believes in making movies with a statement... a movie which has a massage for the audience.

"I don't think I am any different to any other film makers, we are all the same, where we all embark on the something which we all believe in whether it is a story, a screenplay, the idea, the concept that way I am no different but maybe treatment wise my film are a little bit different. I would think they are, they have a backbone of humour, I would love to keep a backbone of humour and where ever poossible and I would like to tackle an issue, some statement you know. I don't like sitting on the fence, some statement. Jhankar beats talks about safe sex, so that is my statement" says Sujoy.

An avid fan of the Big B, Ghosh idolises Amitabh Bachchan. And it was a dream come true for this young man when Bachchan consented to act in his film "Home Delivery".

Talking on what inspired him to take up films as a career, Sujoy said he always felt that the medium is a powerful one and can influence the audience.

"I think purely the power of films, you know, a medium which can keep three hundred four hundred people silent for more than three hours is an amazing medium and if used correctly, it can be very powerful as well. And that too the urge to tell a story, to tell something visually because to tell a story anybody can but I always wanted to tell a story visually, like a comic book plus watching films is a the biggest inspiration", said Sujoy.

For Sujoy, it is the screenplay and the presentation of the story that is more important. A person with a creative bent of mind, the usual mundane cinema do not attract him at all.

An ardent follower of Manmohan Desai's ideology, Ghosh loves to work on any project that is challanging.

"I would love to direct a film where the screen play is challanging. I would like to... because you see that is what my job description as a director is, to have an exiting screenplay which will keep the audiences captivated. So for me the story should be as simple as possible. Girl falls in love, excellent, best story of all time but it is how I present the story that is what is challanging to me . Hopefully any film which presents me with a very challanging screenplay, it does not have to be of a particular genre, it does not have to of a particular nature but if the screenplay is exiting I am exited", he added.

Hesitant about divulging any details on his next project, Ghosh says, it is a children's movie but a tough one as he has to lay more emphasis on the technical aspects with children of this genre are well exposed to high level entertainment.

"See for example, the next movie that I am doing is a children's movie, it is a feature film which should be appealing to adult audience as well, a proper feature, that is quite a challanging job because children today are exposed to very high end entertainment you know, whether it is cartoon, whether it is Harrey potter, or a Narnia , so to get to that technical level, to get to that polished level it is going to be quite challanging", he added.

All the best to this young lad who not only directs movies but also authors them. He believes that one can fight critics but not the audience.

For him, no matter how intelligent or clever one is, ultimately its the audience which is the decisive factor. He says "The last thing that one can do is to cheat oneself"!

Once Again ...

It was a blunder once again, I sensed it, just after blurring out those few words not intended to hurt my dear friend's feelings but just as an admonition. And I feared I did it again.

"Will you go through my blog, I have created a new one", my friend said enthusiastically one morning.

Through out the day I tried my best to squeeze out some time to have a glance at the blog, once at least.

Usual mundane work and meeting dead lines did not allow me to browse through the site. It was six in the evening that day and I moved out of office hurriedly so that I do not miss my bus, only to realise later that I have forgotten to go through the site before leaving office.

The next morning the first thing I did in the morning was to go through the blog. It was a very impressive blog, very soothing with a well written piece adorning it. I called him up to congratulate him ... "It is great, a very good template and a well written piece", I said "its really nice, but I will suggesst you something... you have to be a little bit more cautious about the grammer and spellings, but the template was really good" I added as a genuine concerned friend and was speaking right from the heart.

My collegue, a techno savvy guy who was sitting next to me and did know my friend too heard about the two words "good template" , he pulled the receiver from me and blurred out at him "good template ... what template ... you did not tell me".

Known for my absentmindedness, I was oblivious about my surroundings only to realise later that I should not have come up with those honest opinion in that environment, It could have hurt my friend ...

But alas, I did it ... I have made the mistake once again.
